Quilting by the Lake Participant Information

Registration & Check-In at QBL

Upon arrival to QBL, students must check-in and register to receive their housing & classroom assignments and registration packet. 

At OCC, the Registration/Information Desk will be in the atrium of Whitney Hall. 

The Registration/ Information Desk will be open the following days & times:

Sundays:                                 Noon - 6pm

Mondays & Wednesdays:     7:30 - 9:30am

Tuesdays:                               2- 6pm

Saturdays:                              Closed

All other times:  Go directly to the back of Residential Building B, #165. There will be instructions & contact information on the door.

QBL Quilt Show & Vendors

Thank you to all of you who entered a quilt this year! At this time we are no longer accepting entries.

All current & past QBL students are invited to submit up to 3 quilts for inclusion in the annual QBL Quilt Show which will include over 100 contemporary and traditional quilts. The show also includes vendors selling fabric, gifts and other quilting related items.

The QBL Quilt Show & Vendors will be open Sunday, July 18 - Thursday, July 29 from 11:30am - 5:30pm & on Tuesdays, July 20 & July 27 from 7 - 9pm.  CLOSED:  Saturday, July 24.

All students who are interested in participating in the QBL Quilt Show must submit an entry form by May 1, 2010.

Please review the following requirements:

  • Quilt size: the minimum is 12" on all sides and maximum is 90".
  • Quilts must have a 6” sleeve on the back. Quilts longer than 90" cannot be shown unless sleeve is placed so that the quilt will not drag on the ground.
  • Quilts must have a label, identifying the maker(s).
  • Maker(s) must be current (2010) or past participant(s) at QBL.
  • A list of everyone who worked on each piece must be listed on this form.
  • A non-returnable photograph (in-progress okay!) must accompany the entry form.
  • Entries must be on exhibit for the duration of the show.
  • Include a business-size, stamped, self-addressed envelope with the entry form. Acceptance notices will be sent by June 15, 2010.
  • Wearable art must be display-ready, with label identifying the maker.
  • Accessories, including hats, bags, shoes, etc., may not be submitted.

Optional: Short statement about the piece.

What to Bring

Dormroom:
Linens are provided (1 set of sheets, 1 blanket, 1 pillow, 1 bath towel & 1 washcloth). However you may consider bringing the following items for your convenience: 

  • kitchen basics - pots/pans/silverware/dishes/cups/ kitchen towels
  • bath basics - bathmat, additional towels, basket for shower essentials, flip-flops
  • additional bedding - sheets (for twin mattress), blanket, pillow if you choose not to use what is provided
  • table lamp
  • fan
  • hangers
  • alarm clock
  • cd player/radio
  • laundry detergent
  • cell phone
  • luggage cart
  • umbrella/rain coat
  • flashlight
  • camera/film

Classrooms:
Personal lamp and extra bulbs, water bottle, surge protector.

Class Supply Lists
Detailed, comprehensive supply lists are sent out with confirmation letters.  Additional material fees are indicated on supply lists, and will be due at QBL. If you lose your supply list go to classes click on the class and the supply list will be under the description or please contact qbl@schweinfurthartcenter.org or call (315) 255-1553.

Helpful Information

Sewing Machine Rentals
Bernina sewing machines may be rented for your classes at QBL. Contact the following for more information or to rent a sewing machine. All rental requests should be placed by May 1, 2010.

Location
Onondaga Community College is located in Syracuse, NY. If you wish to arrive or depart by air, Syracuse Hancock is the nearest airport. The welcoming letter contains more information about directions and taxi service that can provide transportation to OCC. For more information go to www.sunyocc.edu.

Getting to QBL at OCC

By Car:   Accessible from Rt. 481, Rt. 81 and the New York State Thruway.
By Air:   The closest airport is Syracuse Hancock.
Taxi Service:   Taxi service is available through Century Transportation at (315) 455-5151. Century Transportation is located in the Syracuse Hancock Airport.

Sending Supplies

If you would like to send some of your supplies ahead of time, the OCC address will be provided in the welcome packet that is sent out April 2010. Be sure to write QBL, the name of your teacher and the class on the outside of your package to facilitate its delivery to your classroom. No packages can be accepted prior to the Monday before the conference begins. For questions please email qbl@schweinfurthartcenter.org or call 315-255-1553.

Scholarship Program
The QBL Scholarship Program was instituted by students to help offset the
cost of classes. Scholarship recipients receive 5 days of free tuition for QBL
classes. Applications for scholarships must be accompanied by a registration form for classes and be received by October 15, 2009. Names of applicants remain anonymous to the Scholarship Committee. Recipient notifications are sent in January 2010.  For more information and to download an application go to the "Registration/Housing" page.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be submitted in writing to the Program Coordinator. No refunds will be issued after June 1, 2010 for any reason. Conference fees are transferable to another student of your choice.  Cancellations must be in writing or emailed and received no later than June 1, 2010. Participants are encouraged to obtain Cancellation and Travel Insurance, usually purchased through your travel agent.

QBL reserves the right to cancel classes. If cancelled, all participants registered will be notified and sent a full refund.
In the event QBL is required to cancel the conference due to circumstances beyond our control, participants will receive refunds pro-rated based on the number of days of housing, meals and classes they received. QBL is not responsible for travel refunds.
