NANCY CROW: RECENT AND NEW WORK MAY 29 - AUGUST 15, 2010 CONSTRUCTIONS #84: NO! 2007©NANCY CROW Photograph by J. Kevin Fitzsimons The quilts of world renowned artist Nancy Crow will be featured in a solo exhibition of her work at the Schweinfurth Art Center May 29 - Aug 15, 2010. Nancy Crow has been the most significant quilt artist in the country for the past 20 years and she has been a leader in promoting and establishing quilting as a medium on par with other fine arts. Known for her mastery of color, line and shape and her groundbreaking, improvisational approach to quilting, she has had a major impact on contemporary quilting. In 1996, she received the National Living Treasure award from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. In 1999 she was named a Fellow of the American Craft Council, NY, NY. Her work is in the collections of major museums including the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; the Museum of Arts & Design, NYC; and the Museum of American Folk Art, NYC. She is featured in several books including the award-winning Nancy Crow, 2006, Breckling Press; Nancy Crow: Improvisational Quilts, 1995, C&T Publishing and Nancy Crow: Quilts and Influences, 1990, American Quilters’ Society. Crow is a much sought after teacher and travels internationally giving workshops and lectures. She will be teaching and lecturing at the Schweinfurth’s summer conference, Quilting by the Lake, at Onondaga Community College, Syracuse, NY, July 19-30, 2010.
