Margaret Miller is a studio quiltmaker who travels widely lecturing and teaching workshops on
color and design which encourages students to "reach for the unexpected" in contemporary
quilt making. Her presentations are known for their enthusiasm, humor, and sincere
encouragement to quilt makers of all levels and experience. She has taught nationally
and internationally in Great Britain, New Zealand, South Africa and Denmark.
Margaret learned to quilt and appliqué in 1978. At the time she taught creative textiles
and other classes at California Polytechnic State University, lan Lui Obispo. She started
"Tanglethread Junction" a pattern business for appliqué and stained-glass appliqué patterns
and sold it in 1982 to become a full-time quilt maker. She has authored 5 books for example:
SMASHING SETS: Innovative Settings for Sampler Blocks (2000), Easy Pieces: Creative Color
Play with Two Simple Quilt Blocks (1998). She is currently working on two new books.
Margaret lives an hours ferry ride west of Seattle on the Kitsap Peninsula.
