Greetings from hot and soggy New Jersey! Finally we can count the days not the weeks or months until QBL 2006! Sometimes it seems like the year is going in slow motion, but this spring flew by. This edition of DISPATCHES will catch you up on some of the accomplishments of fellow QBL students, and remind you of those “helpful hints” that add to your comfort while in Morrisville. Just for fun I have added a trivia quiz about QBL. Find the answers in the DISPATCHES update in mid July!
The soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.

to Consider
The American Quilter’s Society Show & Contest in Paducah, Kentucky was a great event for several QBL regulars this year. Jeannette E. Capriano received an Honorable Mention for her quilt, “This One’s for Me,” and Shirley P. Kelly won Second Place for her quilt “Queen Cotton” in the Small Wall Quilts/Non-Traditional category at Paducah. Carol Bryer Fallert who has been on the QBL faculty many times, won Third place at Paducah in the Miniature Quilt category for “Midnight Fantasy.”
The 2006 National Quilting Association show was held in Columbus, Ohio this year. At NQA Joyce Martelli received an Honorable Mention for “Trans-Siberian Light Show” in the Art Quilt category, and Shirley P. Kelly won a Judges Recognition award for “Queen Cotton.” Jean Biddick who has been both a student and on the faculty at QBL won Second place At the NQA show in the Team Wall Quilt category for “Osgoode Hall.”
Again congratulations to all of you, and if I missed anyone, please let me know and I will make sure the information gets into the July DISPATCHES.

The making of an artist is more than the training of hands;
it's the training of the eye, the ear, and the listening heart.
~ William Gough

We pass these hints on every year just in case you forgot…My yearly disclaimer is, yes, if you drive with a group, fly or take the train to QBL, some of this is not practical.
- Bring coat hangers if you need to hang up clothes
- Towels are provided but are tiny and thin, so if you have room bring a couple from home
- The beds are extra long, we are provided with sheets, but if you want a fitted sheet for the bottom, bring one. Also, the mattresses are plastic-covered, so a mattress pad is always helpful.
- If you have lots of stuff to take to your classroom, bring a luggage carrier. It will make things much easier getting from place to place. Never fear though, if you need assistance getting to & from with your things, there is help on campus for you.
- Rain gear is always a good idea, at least an umbrella. Maybe if we all bring it, the rain will stay away!
- Pay close attention to your supply list!!!
- Don’t fill every space in your suitcase/car. You will probably want to shop at the vendor’s mall and the mini-mall, so you need room to take your purchases home.
- Bring comfortable shoes!
- A fan is a great idea if you have room. Some of us see it an essential item!

- Cazenovia
- Stone Quarry Art Park just outside Cazenovia
- July 29/30 Annual Book Sale at the Cazenovia Public Library. Thousands of great books for sale
- Hamilton, just east of Morrisville, home of Colgate University
- Chenango Falls
- “Observatory Hill” at Morrisville—the best place to see the stars at night!
- Antique Stores in Bouckville
