Embellish to the Max

2 days - All Levels

Looking for some techniques to add sparkle to your quilts and wearables? We will scrunch, fold, manipulate, and embellish fabric. You will experiment with various techniques, knowing you may take an instant dislike to some and be immediately enthralled by most. If you don’t want to use the samples you make in a quilt or wearable, we will explore incorporating them into a beautiful purse.

Taught by: Priscilla Kibbee

Supplies Needed:

This is a sample class where we will be quickly fashioning a large number of pieces which will enable you to “try on” multiple techniques. In order to keep the supply list down and keep your costs low, I will be supplying a kit with a number of items you will need in small amounts.

Fabrics:
  • Scraps of silk, sheers such as silk organdy, silk chiffon, (fairly long lengths if possible) net or tulle in various colors lame, glitzy fabrics
  • A square of velvet (around 14")
  • Silk chiffon scarves….the type you find at yard sales (if you can find them)
  • 2 yds muslin
  • Kunin felt – a few assorted squares
  • (Aim at filling about a 12" to 14" square box of assorted fabrics)
Fibers and Thread:
  • 1 skein glitzy yarn (be prepared to share it in class for more variety)
  • Metallic machine threads
  • Machine embroidery threads
  • Basics:
  • Sewing machine---and bring whatever fancy feet you have for it.
  • Basic sewing supplies, scissors, pins, Rotary cutter, mat, ruler
Other:
  • Metallica machine needles
  • Water soluble stabilizer..Wet N Gone by Floriani for example
  • Pack of long thin wooden sticks for kabobs (from a Dollar Store)
If you have it:
  • Soldering iron
  • Heat tool (for crafts)

I will supply heat tools and soldering irons for use in class. But its always nicer to use your own. There will be a kit fee of approximately $20.

Note: I will have just about everything (except sewing machine, needles and thread) either in a kit, and for share, or for sale in class. But please, do look for fabrics to bring. We will make a “share pile” of a few pieces from everyone so there will be lots of choices to work with.

Classes are always "in process" and teachers want to offer the most up to date information and resources possible for students. Look for more information on the class and/or an update to the supply list on my web site in May, 2007.
