Mystical Molas – Introduction to Mola Making

Molas have been created by the Kuna Indians of Panama ever since they were introduced to fabrics.They attract attention! Combining vibrant colors and appliqué skills make this an easy technique to learn. Design and create your very own small Molas in the colors you desire. Prerequisites: Basic needle turn appliqué skills. Appliqué knowledge is helpful.

Supplies Needed:

• 3 to 4 colours of contrasting solid coloured fabric, Fat Quarters are perfect for this.
• Sketchpad and coloured pencils
• Basting thread
• Fine sewing thread to match the colours of the fabric
• "Betweens" quilting needles
• Fabric marking pen(s)
• Small sharp pointed scissors
• Cutting mat, rotary cutter and ruler
