| Torn Paper & Textures: The Art of Original Cloth Judy Langille
3 days (10/29-10/31)- All Levels
Create an original fabric of whole composition designed on one piece of fabric. Two simple printmaking processes will be explored in this class. We will begin our designs with a very simple paper resist technique and a blank silkscreen frame. A variety of papers, both torn and carefully cut will be the stencils used in creating these fabrics. We will then learn another way of creating silkscreens from black & white photo copies and a thermo fax machine. This gives you an instant printable image that can have great detail or be highly graphic. Textures, text and photos are some of the inspirations that can be the basis of your designs. We will also consider the possibilities of removing colors as we work with our newly discovered inspirations. Complex designs will be achieved through the multi layering of areas with thickened dyes. The results will be spontaneous and exciting.

Exploring Wearable Art Mary Ray
3 days (11/12-11/14) - All Levels
What qualifies a garment to be considered "art"? Is it the cut, the fabric, the detail, the embellishment, the surface design, the construction? All of the above? In this class, we'll consider all of these things as you design and begin a garment that incorporates the knowledge and skills of the dressmaker with the elements of art and the principles of design. Start with a source of inspiration. Explore sewing and fabric manipulation techniques and how they can be used to interpret an inspiration theme.
