Students will experiment with thickened dyes to paint and print on fabrics. We’ll
make our own stamps, print with found objects, make rubbings, and experiment with monoprinting in addition to painting with brushes and sponges. Taught by: Jeannette DeNicolis Meyer

- Paint mask (OSHA approved for particulates…disposable, available in hardware stores)
- Rubber gloves (or latex, or nylon, to keep your hands dye-free)
- Apron (or clothes that will be improved with dye drips)
- Paint brushes – an assortment of inexpensive foam and bristle brushes
- Paint rollers and paint trays – you can bring inexpensive narrow paint rollers and clean Styrofoam meat trays for the roller, or bring real paint trays and wide rollers – or an assortment of both
- Roll(s) of plastic drop cloth – this will be used to wrap the fabric to cure it. It’s hard to handle anything flimsier than 1mm
- Paper towels or rags
- Found objects for stamps and rubbings
- Masking tape (different widths)
- Paper for notes and sketches
- Pen or pencil
- Paper scissors
- Xacto knife for cutting stencils
- Freezer paper for stencils
- Chocolate for inspiration
Fabric
Extra fabric – fabric must be prepared for dyeing (scour in very hot water with a small amount of Synthrapol) and either cellulose (cotton, hemp, linen, rayon, tencel) or silk. You may choose to overdye a light or medium value or start with white fabric.
